“Tell everyone to sit down,” Jesus said. So they all sat down on the grassy slopes. (The men alone numbered about 5,000.) Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks to God, and distributed them to the people. Afterward he did the same with the fish. And they all ate as much as they wanted.

In the verse prior, Andrew says the boy's basket has five loaves and two fish, but what good is that for this huge crowd.  And Jesus responded with "Tell everyone to sit."  Not a few, but everyone.  Jesus didn't care about the numbers.  He knew it would be plenty, and of course they had leftovers.  What I see here is, do not look at the situation and analyze it.   Just make sure you put Jesus in the equation.
